Printing with movable type
A day to discover movable type and typographic printing. Think of a word or short phrase, sketch how it might look as a poster, choose your letters from our type cases, and experiment with hand-inking.
- I. Introduction to the history of letterpress and presentation of the machinery
- II. Composition design: sketches and type selection
- III. Locking the forme with the composing rule — balancing spaces
- IV. Hand inking and colour experimentation

We will hand-print a limited edition on our 1950s Ambrosia platen press, choosing type, paper and colour together.
